Getting there could not be easier..
Ryanair fly to Carcassonne daily and its not that expensive in fact its cheaper (quicker too) than a train from London to Manchester.

What does it cost?
As a family of 4 we pay anything from £40 per person to £125 approx for peak travel times (school holidays). But register with them and you are notified of any special deals, such as £1.00 each way plus taxes.
How long does it take?
We leave our home on the Bed/Herts boarders at 4:00am UK time and arrive at the
property at 10:00 Central European time (3 hours). Just in time for a late
breakfast!
** Warning **
Don't use Ryanair's European callcentre as it charges you a small fortune, actually
it might be fraud as they answer the phone and place you on hold at your cost.
Then after a number of minutes I have waited 65 minutes until I was answered.
They don't have a message that says they are not open at weekends and evenings
either.
Best bet is to call Carcassonne airport they are very helpful
